Training Band News

11:33 - 28/08/2013

As we come towards the end of another wonderful Summer Holiday period we can turn our thoughts back towards wonderful music making again. A massive thanks must be said to Paul and the crew for keeping band going right through the holiday period - Thanks Guys!

As we all start appearing fully in the band-room again can I point out that our final concert of the Summer is playing for our own 'James' at Sutton On Trent Gala (which is is helping to run) - please arrange life styles around being there please as we are on the programme of events for the day! It is on Sunday 8th September (which sounds a long way away but is actually a week on Sunday!) We will need to be at the venue for 1pm but I will provide more details at band on Saturday.

I have asked Deborah if she would consider taking on a role of manager for the band - with the band now being sustainable in its own right there is naturally now a need for the role as I cant manage running the band and conducting. I have mentioned it before but I would like to have a band committee formed with everyone involved including all parents and supporters to look at how we manage the band. For example through our own hard work we have accumulated some decent funds in the band account and we all need to give our opinions on how we spend it and account for it.

Our brand new band jackets (they are excellent) have also arrived so get your 10's ready as Deborah (band manager - appointed after some friendly persuasion?) will be overseeing their allocation. The jackets are heavily subsidised from our own band funds and really are excellent bits of kit - waterproof, breathable fleece wind-block jackets which are fully reversible and have the bands new crest embroidered on both sides. These will fantastic as we move towards outdoor playing at Christmas! The agreed rule (passed by the band members) was that we all pay 10 towards the cost as a gesture of support - so rule will be no tenner no jacket and they will only be issued on this basis.

Training Band Date Reminder

10:12 - 26/11/2012

Hiya team

Here's a reminder of our impending training band Christmas concert event dates.

There are no surprises as they have been sent out many times on emails since last May - so I expect everyone to be there.

Sunday 2nd December Whitwell Village Christmas parade - this is this coming Sunday! We all need to be at the Whitwell Community Centre at 5pm to start.

Please keep an eye on the weather forecasts and dress accordingly (as nothing will stop the event including rain, wind or snow) - you will most certainly need to wear something warm. Parents please make sure you attend events to care for your loved ones as the band tutors wont be able to take any responsibility. Also make sure you have a folding music stand if possible and some clothes pegs to fasten your music to them - or alternatively a music lyre to fit onto your instrument. There will be stands at the bandroom but some are quite heavy and bulky.

The other concert is in Hodthorpe Village for the Parish Councils annual event - Tuesday 11th December meeting at the Hodthorpe Social club at 6.30pm - this will finish around 8.45. We play carols around the village for approx one hour then play a small concert in the hall for about 30 - 45 minutes.

Training Band Back in Action!!!

11:09 - 05/09/2012

I hope you have all enjoyed a smashing Summer break.

Just to let you all know that band will be fully back this coming Saturday morning - so its time to dust off those instruments, get them out of their cases and get them on your lips again. We have new music to rehearse and concerts being organised as we move towards Christmas (sorry for mentioning the C word in the first week of September).

A big thanks must go to Paul (Woody) and helpers who have kept Saturday mornings ticking along over the Summer period whilst I've been away. I didn't realise what a keen lot you were despite the Summer holiday period with lots away - well done Paul and thank you.

If you are on the email list and haven't been along for a while - PLEASE jump in a car (preferably your own) and just come along - you know you'll love it!

So see you all Saturday morning!

Whitwell Gala next Saturday 14th July

19:19 - 09/07/2012

Just a gentle reminder that we are playing at Whitwell gala next Saturday 14th July.

The start time for us to actually start playing is 1pm and we will be finished at 2.30pm - these times are now fully set and wont be changed again - honest!
So make sure you are there and ready by 12.45pm.

The Gala is on the Whitwell recreation ground and is accessed via the pathway at the side of Whitwell Garage on the main road (Welbeck Street) out of Whitwell to Hodthorpe and the A60.

Just in case you were missing this morning - there will be a practice as normal in the morning next Saturday as well as playing at the Gala. This will be a chance for us to polish up some of the new music which we could well be playing at the Gala.

Well done again this morning (we are now playing some difficult stuff really well) - another big turn out of people and with loads missing as well - thanks. Will have to get a bigger room soon - nice to see Chris as well this morning along with the guest appearance from Brighouse and Rastrick Bands percussionist - cheers Gareth, and Tony as well who is providing some bass support next weekend too.

We also look forward to another influx of players joining in the next couple of weeks (as word continues to get around about what nice people you are) including yet more clarinets! Bring them on! May have to change our name to 'wind' band soon.

regards

Andy

Ps

George, Cal and Chris - can you give a thought to next week end please and if it is easier to use your kit or the bands. Also 'boys' band is back to Monday and Thursday again now so feel free to continue your excellent progress in the percussion departments in the main set up. Thanks also to 'cheesey' who alongside Gill, Neil and Kimberley have become regular players now in the main band.
