MD Appointment

Whitwell Brass are pleased to announce the appointment of Ryan Stacey as MD. Ryan started playing with the band as a beginner at the age of 8 and is pleased to have gone full circle to conduct the band where he has his roots. The band are looking forward to working with Ryan and what the future will bring as a whole, with his continuing efforts as the MD for the training band as well.

Whitwell Band returned from their annual trip to the Midlands Regional Championships with a solid seventh place in the fourth section. After a few years of disappointing results, the band a are back on track; building on the third place awarded at Butlins earlier in the year.

The adjudicators particularly liked the solo cornet, flugel, solo horn, euphs and kit percussion.

Fourth Place at Butlins Mineworkers Championships

Whitwell Brass Band finished in a creditable 4th position in the fourth section at this years Butlins contest. This is the third consecutive year that the band has been in the prizes.

Thank you to Kevin Holdgate for stepping in as MD at short notice and continuing the hard work put in by Alan Needham prior to his sudden illness.

The band wish Alan a speedy recovery.

In the Prizes at Bolsover Entertainments Contest

Whitwell Band had a successful day at the Bolsover Entertainments contest.
The band played first in the fourth section contest starting at 10am.
Three hours and six bands later,
the band were rewarded with third place, highest placed mining band and flugel player Nicky Hand took the soloist's prize for her sensitive rendition of Send In The Clowns.

Nicky Hand - Best Player at Whiston

On a hot Saturday afternoon in the village of Whiston, the band put themselves against 15 local bands from the First Section down in an marching and entertainment contest.
The band finished 2nd of the Fourth Section bands, narrowly losing out to Maltby, however, Flugel player, Nicky Hand was awarded the prize for Best Instrumentalist throughout the whole contest with her solo, Send in the Clowns.
